The coast around URDAIBAI was already renowned as a bathing area in the last century (XX Century). It was the summer resort of many families from Bilbao and even Madrid. Today URDAIBAI is one of Bizkaia’s top tourist destinations: it offers a blend of culture and nature and a wide range of attractions, from watching such birds as the spoonbill and the peregrine falcon, to visiting the Assembly Hall and Tree of Gernika, the caves of Santimamiñe and the typical produce markets and fairs of the area, nor forgetting, of course, the beautiful coastline with its picturesque fishing ports and beaches.
