●     Born in Riaño (Cantabria) in 1960. Married with 2 children.

●     Holder of a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. Has also studied engineering and theology.

●     High-school teacher on extended leave of absence.

●     General Co-ordinator of Ezker Batua-Berdeak.

●     Member of the Basque Parliament since 1994.

●     Basque Govt. Minister for Housing and Social Affairs since September 2001.
