Support Sheet

Today's political polarization is transmitting to our society the impression of a closed horizon and no alternatives. We believe that the Basque people are not willing to accept this deadlock and want to see more communication, dialogue and agreements .For this reason, we wish to open a space for hope and confidence, founded on four basic principles:

Non-violence and defence of Human Rights, meaning:

The renouncement of all types of violence and extortion, and demanding that ETA definitively lay down its arms.

An active commitment to the defence of and solidarity with all individuals who have suffered from or continue to be affected by violence and terrorism, as well as those affected by any violation whatsoever of human rights and freedoms.

Scrupulous respect for all human rights and liberties of all people, without distinction.

Political Dialogue, meaning:

The unequivocal commitment to dialogue as a means of attaining peace, and as an avenue to solving the conflict surrounding political normalization and coexistence in our society.

Include in the dialogue initiatives aimed at relaxing tensions, humanizing and encouraging democratic tolerance. Refusing to dialogue is tantamount to denying a solution.

An open dialogue, excluding no one and with no political restrictions, in a forum made up of political parties whose members undertake to defend their projects exclusively by peaceful and democratic means.

Respecting the decisions of the Basque society, meaning:

Respecting the institutions and legal frameworks created to date through the will of the majority of Basque citizens, and respecting the democratically legitimate option to change, renew or modify such institutions and frameworks.

In summary, respecting the Basque society's right to be consulted so that it may exercise its right to determine its own future freely, peacefully and democratically.

Social Construction, meaning:

The commitment to constructing Euskadi on the foundation of acknowledgement and acceptance of the Basque society's plural nature, based on a model of integration, progress, social justice and solidarity with the less fortunate.

An open model of society which strives for integration and serves as a reference for freedom, well-being and solidarity; a model able to meet the challenges inherent in the profound changes and transformations our people must confront in the twenty-first century.

It is our commitment to defend and promote these principles in order to unfold a new era of hope and resolution in Euskadi.
